Amber S. Kelley, M.Ed., LCMHCS, NCC

Director of Counseling Services

Amber earned a Master of Education degree in Counseling and Educational Development with a specialty in School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Amber is a North Carolina Board Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, a Nationally Certified Counselor, and a Specialist in Disaster Mental Health and Critical Incident Stress Management. She has over 32 years of professional experience in a variety of settings, including Guilford County Schools, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, institutions of higher education, and private practice in the local community serving children, adolescents, adults, and families. She has served on multiple national disasters across the country to provide critical incident stress debriefings. She is certified by the National Association of Behavior Intervention and Threat Assessment and has served on multiple teams to help prevent, identify, intervene, manage, and reduce risk to campus communities. Amber holds the Certified Educational Designation with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and has overseen multidisciplinary disordered eating teams. Amber has served as Chair of a Harm Reduction Committee and a Trauma-Informed Care/Resilience-Oriented Team. Amber has served as the primary investigator for multiple grant-funded studies focused on horticultural therapy, prevention and harm reduction strategies, suicide prevention, and collegiate recovery. In addition to the wide range of mental health
concerns, some of her areas of interest include leadership, supervision, trauma-informed care, grief/loss, and holistic approaches to wellness, including mindfulness, meditation, horticulture, creative arts, and the use of adjunctive therapeutic interventions.

  • Served on the CARE Team and Threat Assessment Team.
  • Chaired the Harm Reduction Committee, Interdisciplinary Disordered Eating Team, Trauma-Informed Care Team.
  • Member of the Association of University Counseling Center Directors, the American Counseling Association, and the American College Counseling Association.
  • 32 years of experience and expertise in the field of mental health, having served in schools, higher education, private practice and inpatient hospital settings.
